Following the remarkable productions of The Hunchback of Notre-Dame and Hamlet at the Heydar Aliyev Palace, ƏSA Theatre will present, for the first time in Azerbaijan, "Iblis" (The Devil) by the great Azerbaijani playwright and poet Huseyn Javid as a musical.
Created by a professional creative team, this large-scale theatrical production is set to become one of the country's most memorable stage events. The musical will premiere on 13 February 2027 at 8:00 PM. In this new adaptation, time and space are reimagined through a contemporary artistic vision, while innovative stage design creates a unique theatrical aesthetic.
Unlike the original play, the story unfolds in the year 2118, in a post-apocalyptic world. Humanity, having reached an extraordinary level of technological advancement, finds itself on the brink of extinction after the last world war. The conflict has pushed civilization back by nearly 200 years, and within this devastated future, the events of Iblis are brought to life once again.
The project's creator and chief producer is Nihad Qulamzade, while the production is directed by Binyamin Sailov.
Original music has been specially composed for the production, and brand-new songs based on the tragedy's monologues have been created. As a result, for the first time in Azerbaijan, Huseyn Javid's legendary tragedy Iblis will be presented to audiences as a musical.
